Overview
Krabi, a province on southern Thailand’s Andaman coast, is an almost otherworldly region of labyrinthine archipelagos, where islands seem to erupt vertically out of the sea and secluded beaches are only accessible by colorfully adorned long tail boats. Krabi’s myriad of bays and coves have sheltered pirates, merchants, and sea gypsies for thousands of years and archaeological evidence indicates that Krabi was originally inhabited as early as 25,000 - 35,000 years ago!

Krabi Town has a number of budget and mid range hotels while Ao Nang Beach has a wide selection of accommodation options from budget guesthouses to boutique bungalows and spa-resorts both along the sea and on the hillside overlooking the nearby islands. The spectacular Ao Nang Cape, where Railey Beach is located, features budget bungalows for backpackers, a variety of mid-range hotels and resorts, and one of the finest retreats in Thailand, the Rayavadee Resort.

Food & Drink
Krabi town is still a scenic little backwater town, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in a number of great places to eat, including many that specialize in fresh seafood. In Ao Nang, the center of tourist activity on the Krabi Mainland, restaurants serve a variety of cuisines, including Thai and various international cuisines, particularly Italian and German.
Shopping
Ao Nang is the center of shopping for tourist oriented products, where numerous shops and stalls along the beach road sell everything found at typical street markets like Sukhumvit Road in Bangkok. Goods include clothing, silk scarves, and handicrafts, all of which cost a bit more than in Bangkok, although it’s certainly a convenient place to pick up snorkeling equipment and beach mats. In Krabi town there is a smaller selection of shops that carry more reasonably priced and generally higher quality goods.
